Approximately 77% of cancers are diagnosed in people older than 55 years. You should not live in fear, especially since you can help yourselves if you notice the eventual beginning of the disease early enough. There are several early warning signs of cancer that you should pay attention:
Lumps or thickening in the breast, testicles or lymph nodes
Many types of cancers can be felt through the skin, especially those of the breast, testicles and lymph nodes. The lumps or thickening are warning signs and they can be felt easily by testing yourselves. Certain types of breast cancer are more often manifested by redness or thickening of the skin than by a lump.
Changes on the skin
The changes on the skin are not indicators only of a skin cancer, but they may also be indicators of some other types of cancer or other diseases. Signs and symptoms of skin cancer may be some of the following:
• Dark areas on the skin
• Yellowish skin
• Stains which peel
• Extreme growth of certain hairs
• Changes in moles, warts or similar (color, size, edges)
• Pain that does not subside
Problems with the throat and mouth
Persistent and enduring pain in the throat, colds, hoarseness, lumps in the throat, difficulties with the swallowing may be indicators of cancer of the throat, foodpipe, larynx or gullet. A cough which contains even the smallest trace of blood is a sign for a need of medical help (this may not be a sign of cancer).
White spots, dots in the mouth and on the tongue can be signs of leukoplakia. This is an area where cancer can be developed and it can be caused by frequent irritation, often due to frequent smoking.
Changes in the stool, urination and digestion
Continuous urinary difficulties, chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, rectal or urinary bleeding may be signs of bladder cancer, prostate cancer or other diseases.
Difficulties with the digestion, nausea, loss of appetite can be signs of cancer or other diseases.
Pain is often a sign of persistent inflammation and problems with the immunity. Both conditions can be a preliminary stage of cancer if they are not treated correctly. Heavy and persistent headaches can be a sign of brain tumors, as well as frequent back pain, which can be a sign of colon cancer, rectal cancer or ovarian cancer. Do not ignore these problems.
Chronic fatigue means extreme feeling of lack of energy that does not pass, even after several hours of sleep. As the cancer grows, so does the state of fatigue and often it is a sign of a preoccupied immune system.
The fever is often associated with cancer. Almost every person who has cancer will meet with recurrent fever, especially when the cancer takes a significant effect on the immune system. Sometimes, the fever can be a sign of leukemia.
The majority of cancer patients will experience rapid weight loss. The unexplainable loss of 10 or more kilograms may be the first sign of cancer. This is the most common symptom associated with lung cancer or cancer of the digestive tract.
It is certainly recommended to ask for professional help or start applying alternative preventive solutions if you notice any of these symptoms.
