Pneumonia is a lung infection caused by viruses and bacteria or chemicals. It comes to swelling of the alveolar tissue and filling of the alveoli with fluid. A common symptom is the shallow hard breathing, caused by insufficient supply of oxygen. If the inflammation affects only one lung, it is lobar pneumonia and inflammation that spreads out from the bronchi of both lungs is called bronchopneumonia.
In case of inflammation of both lungs, it is a double pneumonia. It usually lasts for about two weeks, although the patient can feel exhausted for one or more months after the healing. All treatments include bed rest.
