Healing Properties of Essential Oils

In the previous article – Essential Oils for Healthy Breathing, we gave you some really effective ways on how to use essential oils for sinusitis, sore throat, chronic bronchitis and other uses. Here, we stay mainly on the healing properties of some essential oils that help with the respiratory problems:

Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris)

Scotch pineIt is a powerful respiratory antiseptic and decongestant that has the status of being very effective for the lungs. It is used in bronchial infections, asthma and colds.

It has the effects of reviving the nervous system, as well as a good oil with  antiseptic properties that can be helpful with urinary tract infections, such as various kinds of inflammation.

Cajuput (Melaleuca cajuputi)

Although this oil is a strong expectorant, it has milder effects than the essential oils of Eucaliptus globulus and Eucaliptus radiata, and it is recommended to use it for respiratory problems of children.

The cajuput is also known for stimulating the sweating, and it is also used as a mild analgesic, antineuralgic and febrifuge.

Eucalyptus globulusIt is a recommended essential oil for all forms of respiratory infections, especially those that are accompanied by cough. Known for its strong capacity, it makes the coughing easier because of its ability to dilute the mucus.

It has antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal effects. It is very strong, so it is not recommended to use it for inhalation in children.

Pay attention to the quality when you buy it and choose only high quality and certified essential oils.

Tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia)

Tea treeThis oil should be present in every home pharmacy. There are good reasons that it is called panacea. In addition, it is one of the two essential oils that does not have to be dilluted and can be applied directly on the skin.

It is a strong antiseptic, it is very effective in the fight against bacteria, viruses and fungi, and yet it is mild, it is not irritating and it is not a toxic oil. It is strongly recommended in inhalation for respiratory infections. It is extremely effective against various genitourinary problems such as cystitis and urethritis, both acute and chronic. Sweet marjoram (Origanum majorana)

It eases the problems of the bronchitis and asthma. In addition to being extremely effective on the respiratory system, it will also relax you mentally. It will also relax you from the muscle tension. It is recommended in inhalations, baths and massages.

Broadleaf Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)

Lavandula angustifolia essential oilThis is another exceptional oil that must be part of your home pharmacy, besides the tea tree.

Here we will tell you about its effects on the respiratory system, because it is extremely effective against the flu, colds, sore throat or inflamed sinuses due to its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.

You can inhale it, but you can also use it in scented baths because of its balancing, antiseptic and analgesic properties.

Indian sandalwood (Santalum album)

Santalum album essential oilThis is another excellent essential oil with antiseptic properties. It eases the symptoms of sore and painful throat, laryngitis, irritation and inflammation of the chest, it soothes the bronchitis and asthma.

It is recommended in the mixtures for gargling, in the aroma lamps for inhalation or in mixtures for massages.

The atlas cedar and the peppermint are also excellent essential oils with antispasmodic and antiseptic effects. They also reduce and dilute the mucus in the bronchi and ease the problems in case of bronchitis, colds and sore throat.
